Frequent Questions

We just need a few details about your business to set up your account. Please complete the New Customer Profile Form and either email it or send it with your pattern. When sending in a wax, pattern, or mold, please use the Quick Casting Order Form to ensure we have everything we need to process your order accurately. If you are uploading a CAD file for printing and casting, use our secure upload page: CAD File Upload

*Note that we are a wholesale casting house working directly for the jewelry trade. We do not cast for the public and recommend you connect with a custom jeweler if you do not have an established studio and training to finish raw castings and set stones.

We prefer to print your CAD Files whenever possible, and it is often more cost-effective than shipping a single printed pattern. The result is also a better-quality, more dimensionally stable casting with cleaner, smaller sprue references that are optimized for fill and casting quality. Less sprue reference = lighter casting = less cleanup time and excess metal dust in your drawer! Win-win!

No spruing is necessary. Due to the specific flow and solidification properties of different alloys, we prefer to do our own spruing to assure quality. Save us both time by leaving the sprue out of the file or off the wax pattern. If you have areas where you specifically do not want sprues attached, please make a note in the “Special Instructions” field when uploading the CAD file.

We prefer CAD files to be uploaded in the 3DM file format. We can also accept STL and most other formats. We are happy to answer your questions about file format and castability. Upload your file here: CAD File Uploads and use the “Special Instructions” field for specific questions or call 503-652-5224 (a human will answer your call!)

Shrink rates vary based on geometry. Our printer is very “true to file” and dimensionally stable. The casting process will typically shrink 1/4 ring size or 1-1.5% on standard sized rings. Larger, more massive designs will shrink more as the metal cools, so those are safer at 2%. If you have concerns, please include them in the “Special Instructions” field when uploading files or call 503-652-5224 (a human will answer your call!)

The metal weight for a platinum casting is approximately 21 times the wax weight, including the small allowance for your sprue stub. The multiplier for 14k yellow gold is 13.6 and 18k yellow gold is 15.2. We are happy to provide a quote, including processing, just email us with your pattern volume, or wax weight, and alloy. We will get right back to you with the cost.
